This webinar was put on in May 2022 by the Corporate Mapping Project and hosted by CCPA-BC Director Shannon Daub. Researchers Bob Neubauer and Nick Graham shared highlights from their investigation into the ways industry-linked organizations (such as Oil Respect and Resource Works) and allied groups (like Canada Strong) use social media to create a pro-fossil fuel echo chamber and mobilize people who identify with their messages. CCPA-SK Director Simon Enoch spoke about how the petro-populism these groups promote connects to far-right mobilizing in Canada including recent events like the convoy/occupation in Ottawa. And, Anjali Appadurai from The Climate Emergency Unit shared how the ties of the petro-populist movement to corporate power can serve as powerful antidotes in organizing against the rise of the far right.
